2021 NWSL Rookie of The Year Signs New Four-Year Contract Worth More Than $1.1 Million

The Washington Spirit re-signed forward Trinity Rodman to a contract extension through the 2024 season, with an option for 2025, the club announced today. Octagon Director of North American Soccer Mike Senkowski, who represents Rodman, negotiated the landmark deal, which is worth more than $1.1 Million guaranteed.

Rodman was the 2021 NWSL Rookie of the Year, after being the second overall pick in last season’s draft and becoming the youngest player drafted in league history. In her first season with the Spirit, Rodman netted seven goals and assisted on another seven including the championship-winning header by Kelley O’Hara against Chicago.

In addition to her NWSL accolades, Rodman was named the 2021 Chipotle U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year.

“The way Trinity performed in her first year allowed us to go to the club and push to get a new deal done,” said Senkowski. “Not many players, let alone teenagers, come into any league in Year One and do all the things she did. The Spirit understood it and agree they have a generational talent.”

“We’re incredibly excited to have Trinity as a part of the Spirit family for at least the next three seasons,” said Spirit Head Coach Kris Ward. “She has a truly special career ahead of her and makes us a better club on all fronts.”

“We’re excited to re-sign Trinity and continue to support her development as a player,” said Spirit President Ben Olsen. “She has accomplished a great deal early in her career and our focus is to provide the right environment for her to reach her potential.”

Octagon has a long history with women’s professional soccer. In addition to representing multiple players and standouts across the sport for more than two decades, in 2019 Octagon announced a multi-tiered, exclusive media rights and marketing consulting partnership with the NWSL.
